Offbeat bras poke fun at society's dumb standards of beauty
In 1979, comedian Steve Martin published a book of short works called Cruel Shoes, which included an essay by the same name. In it, he described a "hideous pair of black and white pumps" which were both left feet, pointed the toes in opposite directions and had razor blades that cut women's feet to ribbons. Of course, they were big sellers.
I would say that making fun of the hideous contortions that women put themselves through for fashion is nothing new, but then again, I'd never seen a bra made entirely out of real crab and lobster shells.
The bra is not intended to be worn, but rather is a work of art by sculptor Laura Ann Jacobs, titled "Bras That Pinch." She has created other bras made of antlers, teeth, seashells, porcelain and glass.
