Shon M. Shanell, pictured, tried to break into a South Seattle mansion last week by shimmying down the chimney. But he only made it part of the way down the soot-filled shaft before he got stuck on top of the fireplace flue, say police in Washington.

Shanell was busted when neighbors heard his cries for help and called 911.
 

"They're coming, so quit yelling! Save your energy," the caller tells the trapped man while on the phone with dispatchers. You can listen to the 911 calls here.

Is it me or do 911 operators ask dumb questions?
It took the fire department nearly six hours to free him.

Shanell, 23, who already has an extensive arrest record, was charged with attempted residential burglary.

He’s being held in jail on $100,000 bond.
