This Robber's 'Junior' League
Jonas Garcia Leon Jr., pictured, was arrested at his home Sunday night about 15 minutes after he allegedly robbed the Clark’s Market grocery store in Aspen, CO. Brilliant work by local police, you say?
Well, perhaps. Or maybe it has something to do with the fact Leon is a former employee there and members of his family are still on the store's payroll.
Cops say, Leon entered Clark's at 8:44 p.m. and approached a cashier demanding money. Despite wearing a yellow bandanna over his face the cashier and two other employees immediately recognized Leon, who they know as “Junior.” The group ignored Leon, but when he allegedly pulled a handgun out of his pocket, the cashier forked over the dough. When the suspect ran away, the employees called police, identified the robber and told cops where he lived.
Investigators went to Leon’s home where they found him still sweating. He consented to a search and officers found the gun plus $1,000 in a Clark’s grocery bag.
Leon, 28, admitted to the crime, cops say.
He was arrested for aggravated robbery, theft of more than $1,000, and menacing; all felonies.
Police don't know why Leon would allegedly targeted his former place of employment — where some members of his extended family are employed — for robbery, since he was well known among workers there.
But I do, in a word: Dumb. It’s a good thing for Leon there isn’t a felony for stupidity.
Hmm… next time perhaps he should try a more brilliant disguise, like permanent marker.
