Roughed Up McGruff
If you regularly read our dumb criminal feature aloud to your children, stop right now.
McGruff the Crime Dog is not actually a dog.
And in this story out of Washington, D.C., McGruff was being portrayed by police officer Tyrone Hardy, who was on a corner passing out flyers to children. That's when a bus pulled up and the driver got out, adjusted his mirrors and punched McGruff in the face, according to cops on the scene.
Hardy said he didn't see it coming due to the costume's tendency to impair vision.
The driver, Shawn Brim, 38, allegedly jumped back in his bus and drove off, leaving screaming children in his wake. Bus passengers began yelling at him.
And while the McGruff head looks plush, it must've been quite a wallop, because Officer Hardy suffered a swollen cheek.
Brim later told a supervisor he was trying "to be funny," according to a police report.
Brim was charged with simple assault. The simple doesn't stand for "simple-minded" but it probably should.
