Brooklyn Bundt Bust
Three high-school seniors in Brooklyn are facing up to seven years in prison after serving their teachers a laxative-laced bundt cake, cops say.
Two crossing guards, a social worker and three teachers became ill after sampling the cake that had a secret super-pooper ingredient. Two of the victims had to be taken to the hospital.
According to the New York Daily News, the students got the idea from watching the MTV prank reenactment show "High School Stories." (the show's producers, of course, discourage teenagers from copying the stunts they see on the show. And we're sure those producers are just thrilled horrified at the publicity MTV has received over this incident.)
Dumb note: I personally hope this unfortunate incident doesn't spoil National Bundt Day, which as you surely know, is November 15th.

Seriously, where are peoples sense of humor. They didn't kill anyone. Its just some laxative and I'm sure they were "really sick" but come on. Seven years! Thats crazy. Just make them pay the medical bill. Everyones done the laxative prank. These kids just cant read the label on how much to use. But w/e. If some adults cant take a joke that just went wrong then they deserved it in my opinion.

Gee I wonder how Schmee would feel if someone sent him/her to the hospital with an overdose of laxatives? Oh, Schmee, don't worry about the hospital bill, it's just joke, you can take a joke right? Oh yeah, I can do anything to you as long as I pay...hmmm....

Schmee, I am sure these criminals were able to read the labels. The problem was that they simply did not care.
They wanted to cause pain and discomfort to other people and that's what needs to be punished.

I agree with Schmee. The punishment is alittle extreme. It was a bad prank normal of teenagers with poor judgement. But to ruin their lives with 7 years of prison is extreme. They're still kids... have them do a year of community work instead and take care of the medical bills. Better yet, have them be teacher's aid for the year. I'm sure the school can use the help due to all the cut backs on education.

7 years is ridiculous. Our whole system of punishment is as disgustingly out of date as the prank. First, the prank itself is much older than MTV and everyone associated with high school or lower grades KNOWS BETTER than to trust food from students... especially students with an axe to grind! Second, I would demand much better solutions than jail. These pranksters would be working for the people they hurt AND paying fines until the lesson "Do unto others..." sank into their thick heads. Let's see how they like, running errands, mowing lawns, picking up garbage, washing cars and dogs, cleaning windows etc.etc. Last I would introduce the school to the concept of community service. Pranks are never going to end but one this radical requires that the perpetrators "re-earn" the trust of others. How about establishing a Parent-Teacher committment (wait...a PTA committee...egads!) to deal with these issues at home and in a positive way. It may sound archaic but it is better than relying on an over-taxed justice system that breaksdown more often than it succeeds

For all the idiots who think this was a simple prank you are well "Idiots"...

All the problem solvers here, you forgot to add to that long list
"let them eat (the) cake!
The problem is considering it a prank or a stunt. It isn't, it's poisoning.
There are medical warnings on the label of this medicine. Even a single dose makes a person uncomfortable. A serious side effect of this medicine is bleeding from ulceration of the colon. Sound like a fun thing you wouldn't mind having done to you? No? Then have a slice.
They were arraigned on "special counts of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment reserved for attacks on teachers".
And the seven years; that is the maximum. Sentencing options are in place for good reason, one being to prevent repeat offenders.

Doesn't matter if they put ex-lax or Oxycontin in the cake, an overdose is still an overdose. It could have killed them or caused serious damage. You don't mess with drugs. If they t-ped the school, then I be going what the hell, but drugs are not a thing you mess with.
