On Tuesday morning, two Swedish thieves allegedly attempted to steal $1,380 worth of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Unfortunately, the ice cream melted before they could take it to a pawnshop and trade it in for some cash. Or whatever it is thieves do with that much ice cream.
Like most stupid ideas, it must have sounded like the perfect crime in the thieves’ heads. No one would ever expect two guys stealing that much ice cream. No one except for a security guard who saw what was going down and gave chase. One of the thieves, an 18-year-old, was caught, but the other guy got away. The ice cream was dumped and completely melted during the pursuit.
According to The Local, Gävle police spokesman Mikael Hedström said, “As I understand it, all the ice cream was still (in the bags). And a lot of it had melted so it had to be thrown away.”
The whole thing is so depressing it makes me want to sit around and eat ice cream all day. Next time, maybe steal a freezer while you’re at it.
