Pot smoking gives you the munchies. Even squares know that. Which is why Seattle cops have decided the best away to educate attendees of this weekend’s Hempfest about the state’s new marijuana laws is with bags of Doritos.
According to The Stranger, “Labels on the snack-sized bags will direct festival attendees to the [Seattle Police Department's] post-legalization FAQ titled ‘Marijwhatnow?’…reminding citizens that possessing up to an ounce of pot is allowed, but selling and growing the stuff remains illegal (until licenses are issued later this year by the state).”
Though you have to credit the po-po for thinking outside of the box and onto the bag, one has to wonder if they’ve consider how much time pot smokers spend reading. Maybe if it’s written in some trippy colors, man!
The privately-funded initiative plans to give out about 1,000 Doritos bags over the weekend. The Stranger quotes police department spokesman Sergeant Sean Whitcomb as saying, “Distributing salty snacks at a festival celebrating hemp, I think, is deliberately ironic enough that people will accept them in good humor.”
But the joke may end up being on the city when they find hundreds of Doritos bags strewn about town. Pot smokers aren’t known as being the cleanliest bunch.
At the very least, it’s great marketing for Doritos. Maybe they were the private funders?
