According to The Independent, Oprah Winfrey claims her request to see a handbag in a boutique in Switzerland during a recent visit was denied because an employee thought she wouldn’t be able to afford it.
“I was in Zurich the other day, in a store whose name I will not mention,” Oprah told Entertainment Tonight. “I say to the woman, ‘Excuse me, may I see the bag right above your head?’ and she says to me, ‘No. It’s too expensive.’”
The Independent continues, “When Winfrey insisted she did want to see the bag the shop assistant allegedly replied: ‘No, no you don’t want to see that one, you want to see this one because that one will cost too much. You will not be able to afford that.’”
The store apologized saying the incident was a “misunderstanding.” Apparently, they misunderstood that Oprah is worth over a billion dollars. Had they known that, I’m sure they would have reacted differently.
And you think that’s bad, just imagine how the store would feel if they found out Oprah was buying the handbags for everyone in her entire audience. “You get a handbag I can’t afford! And you get a handbag I can’t afford! Everyone gets a handbag I can’t affoooor-rrrrrd!”
