The Pasco Sheriff’s Office featured Matthew Oliver as a “Fugitive of the Day” — a post that immediately garnered a strong reaction on the social networking site. “Followers were quick to poke fun at Oliver, who was smiling in the photo,” the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Accused fugitive or not, you have no choice to defend yourself against random commenters on the internet, so Oliver began responding to people in the Facebook post. The exchange between Oliver and other commenters quickly escalated, proving that not only is it impossible to win a fight on the internet, but sometimes getting involved with the trolls can make your life even worse.
“When they saw the commotion on the page,” the Times continues, “Oliver’s Facebook friends wrote messages to the Sheriff’s Office that tipped deputies to his whereabouts.”
And where do you think the Sheriff’s office turned to announce the arrest? Yup, Facebook. In the comments of the same post.
Once he’s out of jail, Oliver is going to have some serious unfriending to do.
