Last month, Huffington Post published an article that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) wasn’t too thrilled with because it alleged that PETA kills animals. They were even less thrilled with some of the comments people were leaving in the article’s comments section.
Now it is reported that PETA is on the hunt for some of those commenters personal information so they can sue them for defamation. I’m pretty sure that’s not how the Internet works.
I guess hiding behind a lawyer is a lot easier than some other things… Other things like, say, standing up for yourself. Now I’m not saying that PETA is an organization full of cowards and hypocrites! I just want to make that crystal clear in case anyone from PETA is reading this.
And I am definitely not saying that if they had a real pair of cojones they’d go after Penn Jillette and Teller, who claimed the same stuff as the recent HuffPo article and tore PETA a new one on their show “Bull S**t” nearly ten years ago. I can understand if they may be a little scared of Penn because at 6’6″ he can be quite the imposing figure. Better to go for smaller fish, or whatever PETA’s appropriate vegan substitute would be.
What I am saying is that everyone has a right to protect themselves from alleged slanderers. So good luck PETA, and don’t let the people trolling your Twitter account get you down. Which I am totally not encouraging more people to do.
