Patti Burke, pictured, is a Melbourne, FL resident who eats two to three pounds of Goldfish crackers a week. And she concentrates on them, looking for the ones that have the most salt. So it’d be easy to say this woman was crackers, would it not?
Well she found a cracker that had unusual markings on it. Looks like an “x” in a circle… maybe a little circle above the eye… did she leap to the conclusion that is was a sign from above? No. She thought she’d won something so she called Pepperidge Farms to say she’d found the “lucky” cracker.
Pepperidge Farms replied that there was no promotion. So of course only then did she assume it was a message from god. Seems sensible, right? Burke now totes the cracker around in a padded jewelry box. Her mother says it might be an angel. Her pastor said he would “hesitate to call it a miracle” but did say it was a sign.
This miracle Goldfish story has a special place in my heart because it comes to us from Melbourne which was the setting for a sci-fi comedy I’m in. The movie is called I’ll Believe You and it’s about the freaky people and wacky things that happen in this strange and beautiful town. Even more amazing, another dumb blogger here, Ritch, is in the movie too, as are stars like David Allen Basche, Patrick Warburton, Chris Elliott, Ed Helms, Mo Rocca and Fred Willard. It’s on Netflix, Hulu — lots of places now — so watch it, why don’t ya? But don’t take my word for it, a YouTube commenter named gsaskue wrote, “This was a very good movie (and I was expecting crap).” Thanks dude. We like to think that Roger Ebert, RIP, would’ve said the same.
