Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to attend the MMA World Expo in New York City, where I got to interact with some of the toughest guys on earth. (That’s me, at left, in case there was confusion.)There was one regrettable incident where I almost lost consciousness, but worry not, I’m fine now. Here’s a tip- if you ever find yourself in a situation when someone you do not know asks to demonstrate a “rear naked choke hold,” your answer should be a polite “no, thank you.”
But getting nearly choked to death wasn’t my only assignment, I also was in the market for some Easter-themed blog content! Luckily, I just happened to bring along a pair of felt bunny ears, so now all I had to do was to ask a series of men who could easily beat me to death if they wouldn’t mind trying them on. As it turned out, most of them were totally game. Far from being brutal thugs, these guys are trained athletes with a code of honor and an fierce desire to see their growing sport continue to flourish, so they were more than happy to market themselves with a smile on their face. Or, most of them were.
Plus, when you see what these guys can endure in the octagon, it’s hard to imagine a little Easter-themed fun fazes them in the slightest. Enjoy MMA fighters wearing bunny ears!
Nick Newell is an undefeated MMA fighter, and current holder of XFC’s lightweight title. This fan favorite has been missing part of his left arm since birth, but it hasn’t slowed him down. Newell defeated David Mays at XFC 19 with a devastating knee to the chin. Here he is wearing bunny ears.
Ray Sefo is currently the President of the World Series of Fighting. He’s a boxer, kickboxer, MMA fighter and six time Muay Thai World Champion. If you’re not careful, he’ll raise you an Easter egg over your eye.
Dan Miller is one tough customer. Remember the “rear naked choke hold” we talked about earlier? Miller used one to great effect in his first UFC fight, defeating Rob Kimmons. When this picture was taken, Miller was tightly squeezing a Cadbury Creme Egg in each fist. (That is a lie.)
James B. Jefferson is the CEO of Global Proving Ground, the group planning an upcoming reality show starring MMA fighters called “Warrior Island.” I don’t want to say he’s strong, but f I had that watch on, my arm would be pinned to the ground.
Andrei Arlovski (left) and Anthony Johnson declined to put the ears on, but they had good reason. They were there to promote facing each other in the main event of the World Series of Fighting 2, which happened Last Saturday, March 23rd. Perhaps Johnson is in a better mood today, he defeated Arlovski in a unanimous decision.
Happy Easter, everyone!
