The South By Southwest Festival is going on!
Hooray!
If you’re not familiar, SXSW is a massive film, interactive media and music festival in Austin, Texas that is overhyped, overblown, peaked in relevance about a decade ago, and I really would have loved the chance to go.
Oh well, somebody’s gotta stay home and blog about how stupid the thing is.
Anyway, the dumb detail of the day down there is that traffic is apparently a nightmare, and so people started ride sharing. The way it works is, if you have an empty seat in your car, you sell it to someone, you make money, they get a ride, there are less cars are on the road, and everybody wins, right? Wrong- local officials have deemed the project illegal, thanks to a centuries old Texas law wherein two men were not allowed to ride on the same horse because the combination of two men that close together wearing cowboy hats and stylish boots looked a little too girly for the average Texan.
That last part is a lie.
I don’t know why ride sharing is illegal. Makes too much sense maybe?
ANYWAY- because of the controversy, one of the ride-sharing app companies started an app offering a piggyback service, wherein you pull out your phone, hit a few buttons and some hipster with a pink mustache will give you a piggyback somewhere.
HOW ADORKABLE!
Check out the video after the jump- my favorite part is how they can’t stop giggling at their own cleverness:
