When a high profile religious leader or ultra-conservative politician known for publicly denouncing gay marriage gets tangled up with the police, it doesn’t ALWAYS mean they got busted for a public homosexual sex act, or in a dalliance with a gay prostitute. Sometimes, it’s something WAY more innocent than that, like in the case of Father Tom Donovan, an Illinois priest who called 911 for help getting out of some handcuffs that he’d been “playing with.”
When the police arrived at Donovan’s church, they found the clergyman, who had previously testified against Illinois’ marriage equality bill, handcuffed, and also gagged, a situation that the diocese has been “tight-lipped” about.
After the jump, take a listen to the 911 call which sounds a lot like a someone with a ball gag in his mouth, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Here’s the link to 911 call, and let’s be clear here. No crime appears to have been committed. According to Donovan, he was gagged and cuffed while alone in the rectory. “Rectory,” by the way, is another word for parsonage, or official house of a member of the church, in case you were confused.
So you know, that’s pretty dumb, right? Playing with handcuffs all by yourself, with nobody in your rectory but you, and look at what happens!
He should really be more careful.
