Massive online grocer FreshDirect.com let something pretty important go past it’s expiration date this holiday season: the address of its website.
According to a press release from the company, “there was a renewal issue with our domain name.” If you’re wondering what that issue was, it’s a simple as this: they didn’t renew their domain name. FreshDirect delivers groceries to customers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, but their website was unavailable much of Tuesday and Wednesday, leading many customers to fear that the company had gone under. But here’s the dumb nugget to take home: According to the Wall Street Journal, the company is approaching $400 million in annual sales. Now let’s compare that to the estimated cost of renewing your domain name:
$37.99
Their website is back up now, so the only thing left for me to ask now is- who’s dumber?
The guy who let the FreshDirect domain name expire?
Or this allegedly drunken fellow singing Kiss From A Rose to his cat?
I seriously cannot decide.
