'Doom And Gloom' is a new single from The Rolling Stones and marks the first time that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards,
Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood have been in the studio together for seven
years. It was recorded in Paris although they were performing and rehearsing secretly in Weehawken, NJ earlier this year.
The new song is bait to get you to buy musty old stuff you already have a track on the forthcoming Greatest Hits album entitled GRRR! which will be "released to the world November 12" except North America
which will have to wait until November 13th because, I guess, we are not
part of the world.
It came out moments ago and people are freaking out saying "The Stones are back!" and "They still got it!"
Sorry but here are 5 good reasons this new Rolling Stones single is dumb:
1. Lot of talk of dirt. Such as "sitting in the dirt, feeling kind of hurt." Which makes me wonder — since they one of the richest bands in the world with a combined wealth of over 800 million dollars — why are they sitting in the dirt? Another line says "We'll be eating dirt, living at the side of the rooooaaad." Come on. Keith Richards, former illegal drug poster boy, is now a tax expert, avid reader and reportedly yearns to be a librarian. These pursuits are at odds with sitting in and eating the dirt. Unless of course the dirt Mick sings of is that of being filthy stinking rich, these lyrics are seriously dumb.
2. The animated video is stylish, sure. But seriously, we want to see them. It is kind of rocking and asks, "baby take a chance won't you dance with me" — so OK we'll take a chance but why can't we see your elderly booties shaking it first?

3. The line, "there's kids all picking at the garbage dump." Yeah but they're called freegans, dudes, and they are very very happy trying to save the world eating your garbage.
4. It sounds exactly like every other Rolling Stones song ever.
5. We're already getting tons of stupid YouTube comments like this one, "Thank you, thank you for the real music in a time filled of non-talent kids with a computer. Thank you rolling stones." Yes thank you Rolling Stones, for confirming everything we thought about cranky bitter old Baby Boomers.
