Unconventional criminal sentences are on the rise, turning state courts from respected places of law and order into little more than circus shows.
Most recently, a young teen in Utah went to court for cutting off the hair of a 3-year-old girl. The judge reduced the chop-happy teen's community service in exchange for getting her own ponytail lopped off in court.
In another case, an abusive father was given the choice of either 30 days in jail or 30 days sleeping in a bona fide doghouse with Fido.
