For over two decades, heavy-set women in Italy have been given the chance to participate in the Miss Cicciona pageant, a beauty competition open to ladies who weigh in at over 220 pounds. You can even view photos from this year's event. This obesity-promoting pageant is absurd.
Now before you get your granny panties in a bunch, allow me to clarify. I'm not saying that lovely, curvaceous ladies shouldn't be allowed to feel pretty in a fancy dress and a fresh coat of makeup. Of course they do. We all do. But beauty pageants, in general, are dumb. I don't care whether you weigh 99 lbs. or 300 lbs. or you're a toddler or a teenager — they're stupid, superficial wastes of time and money. You want to wear a tiara? Go buy one from Party City. But competing for one is dumb.
