The old saying goes, “spare the rod and spoil the child.” But, according to reports, there’s a new spin on that old chestnut about paddling brats. “Spare the masking tape and spoil the child.”
A teacher’s aide in Georgia was put on leave after putting clear packing tape over a kindergarten girl’s mouth because she wouldn’t shut her pie hole. Though the student pulled the tape off within seconds, the teacher reported the incident to school administrators.
Georgia is one of 19 states that still allows corporal punishment in the classroom. Is it acceptable to use force as a means of discipline? Or was this tape-happy teacher out of line?
