A Bankrate study released yesterday states that only 45% of banks offer free checking, down from 76% two years ago. To further put your financial panties in a bunch, miscellaneous account fees are on the rise.
Why all this nickel-and-diming? The dumbed-down version is that banks basically need to make up for lost revenue, so they do that by putting holes in your wallet, whether that's by tacking on a $4 monthly checking fee, a $5 debit card usage fee or charging you $2 per paper statement. Do these excess charges concern you? Or could you care less, moneybags?
Like your free checking account? Prepare to say goodbye
