It was wrong of German insurance giant, Munich Re, to reward their salesmen with a huge, anything goes, no-holds-barred orgy, not because orgies are wrong- but because salesmen are jerks.
In 2007, the company treated their most successful salesmen to a gathering at a thermal bath in Budapest, Hungary. For the 100 guests, 20 prostitutes were hired.
That ratio seems a little skewed to me. It's not like I'd be expecting a virgin, but being a woman's fifth customer that night would make me wonder if she's going to be able to stay awake.
They were given arm-bands that signified their availability and then stamped after providing their services. This was apparently to keep track of how many times the woman was frequented. It's unclear why this was important. Maybe they could get a free Mocha Latte after getting ten stamps.
I have no problem with sex being used as an employee incentive. Quite the contrary, I'm all for it. My problem is that the sex was only offered to men, specifically salesmen, arguably the most obnoxious people that work at companies.
If anyone deserves sexual favors it's the people that have to put up with these glad-handing blowhards. They often have little awareness about what their companies actually do. They leave the actual running of the business to administrators and engineers that they only interact with when something goes wrong and they're looking for someone to yell at. Then while the worker bees are stuck at the office doing all the grunt work they go wining and dining with the company checkbook. They don't need another party. Their whole job is one big party.
So Munich Re, if you're going to throw an orgy, throw it for the people who really need it. I bet there's a lot of administrative assistants and people down in the mail room who could use one.
