An intruder locked himself in a bathroom and called 911 for help after the homeowner returned and found him.
My first reacion to a story about an intruder that calls 911 is DUMB. But then I thought about it. The homeowner had two German Shepards with him and the intruder told the 911 operator he was afraid he might also have a gun.
On second thought I think this guy was actually pretty bright. Like a good gambler, he knew when to cut his losses. At that point, if he was arreseted he was looking at a trespassing charge. If he stepped out of that bathroom and tried to make a break for it he was most likely going to be mauled by two large dogs and possibly even shot.
How many times have criminals ended up in real trouble because they didn't know when to quit? Like the person who was going to get a speeding ticket until he decided to floor it instead of pull over or the bar fight that could have ended in a shoving match but someone had to pick up a broken beer bottle, the examples are endless.
The other bright side to this story is that the homeowner was just as level-headed. He was calling 911 at the same time and asking for the police when he could have kicked open the bathroom door and let his dogs go to town. Imagine that, two people in a heated situation not losing their heads and actually having faith in law enforcement. Maybe the world's going to be OK after all.
