Michael Coplen, pictured, went to a gas station, filled up his tank and then drove off with the hose still attached to his car, according to police in South Bend, IN.
Officers say they were tipped off by motorists whose cars had been struck by the nozzle dangling from Coplen’s fuel tank.
Perhaps you won't be surprised to hear that Coplen, 46, had probably filled himself up beforehand on something other than fuel: Authorities noted his blood alcohol level was .13 and charged him with drunk driving.
In case there was any uncertainty about the identity of who indulged in self-serve stupidity; he paid for the gas with a credit card.
Police returned the hose and nozzle to the station.
