Unemployment is on the rise and companies are struggling with ways to minimize the pain that fired employees are going through. Still, we'll place this recent effort by IBM in the "thanks but no thanks" file.
IBM is actually offering their laid off American employees the option of taking a job in another country, including India, Nigeria and Russia. Of course, only "satisfactory performers" who are willing to work on local terms and conditions are encouraged to apply.
Ugh. I'm sure this will be an appealling option to the hundreds of 22-year-old ex-IBM employees who really want to just "throw everything away, go overseas and find themselves." The rest of them appear to be in tough shape.
You know what's worse than a crappy data entry job for IBM?
That's right, a crappy data entry job for IBM in Siberia.
