Debunking the Biggest Abraham Lincoln Myths
2012 has seen not one but two films promoting Abe Lincoln, our craggy-faced 16th president.
This summer, we watched him spend his days guiding the country and his nights slaying the undead in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Then, just in time for the holidays, moviegoers had the pleasure of watching Daniel Day-Lewis play Lincoln in the eponymous Spielberg biopic most commonly described as “stunning.”
While both are delightful pieces of cinema in their own right, neither of reveals the darker side of the enigmatic president. For instance, did you know that Honest Abe was accused of electoral fraud or that he had U.S. citizens jailed without due process?
